Commercial Marine Expo, New Bedford, MA – June 11, 2014 – McMurdo Group, a global leader in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, today announced that it has integrated Iridium GO!TM into its fleet management software, thereby becoming one of the first Iridium GO! authorized distributors to offer a unified application for the maritime industry globally.
McMurdo Group’s software platform includes a robust suite of vessel-based and shore side-based tracking, two-way messaging, asset/document management and Automatic Identification System (AIS) display capabilities. Backed by the global reach of the Iridium® satellite network, Iridium GO! integrates voice calling, data connectivity and text messaging into an all-in-one communication solution by creating a satellite-based Wi-Fi hotspot to connect mobile devices, tablets and personal computers. The combined solution enables customers to analyze maritime domains, communicate critical information and conduct business operations directly from a variety of devices from anywhere on the ship and anywhere in the world.
“Iridium GO! is a highly attractive standalone satellite communications product, but when integrated with McMurdo Group’s fleet management and vessel operations software, the result is a powerful, maritime solution that increases productivity and streamlines operations at an affordable price,” said Irwin Rodrigues, President, McMurdo Group. “When coupled with McMurdo Group’s live customer service center, companies can confidently operate knowing that a service professional is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to support their critical application and communication needs. We look forward to partnering with Iridium to extend the benefits of this combined offering beyond maritime and into other industries such as aviation, military and recreation on a global scale.”
The McMurdo Group/Iridium GO! solution is ideal for off-shore businesses such as oil and gas operators, commercial fishing fleets and workboat firms where vessels are positioned outside of cellular coverage for extended periods of time. Up to 5 mobile devices can connect to the satellite-enabled Wi-Fi hotspot to extend access to standard communications applications (e.g., email, 2-way messaging, voice calling, Internet browsing) and to more critical operational applications (e.g., location tracking, alarm notification, electronic forms management). A unique least-cost-routing feature also allows customers to switch to the lowest cost communications option – satellite or cellular/mobile technology – when in range.
Effective immediately, McMurdo Group will offer three affordable Iridium GO! monthly service plans – Basic, Standard and Unlimited Enterprise. The fleet management application is pending certification by Iridium, anticipated shortly.
